Alongside Pro Tip:

SEO Manager is a fairly new role that has developed to meet the needs of the digital marketing world. You may not be familiar with what a SEO manager’s duties entail. Are they more of a marketing resource? Sales? Engineering? The answer is all of the above or a combination! It depends on the growth goals of your company. It’s important to plan this job posting with the team they will be joining.

Realize that many of these skills are new and emerging. You won’t necessarily be able to train for them in post-secondary institutions yet. Many of the required skills for an SEO Manager are self-taught or learned through online courses. Decide with your team (based on their goals) what level and type of background knowledge is required. Should they have a business degree? A marketing diploma? Remember that as SEO is new, you won’t likely find many candidates with more than a few years experience in similar roles.
