The ideal candidate for a Financial Controller is extremely organized and comfortable with a high level of financial responsibility. They should also be great with people as they’ll have direct reports and work closely with others in the finance department. Select an experienced candidate that you feel confident will to do the role well.

  • What experience do you have with your current role that will allow you to bring value to our company?
  • Do you have any experience in setting up accounting/financial reporting controls? If so, please give an example of a control you were able to design and implement.
  • What is the most challenging financial project you’ve ever worked on?
  • What financial mistakes have you observed in previous roles, and how have you addressed them?
  • Recall a time you had to persuade an executive team (or your client) to make an important financial decision, even if it wasn’t a decision they wanted to make.
  • How much oversight and direction do you like to have?
  • Are you able to simplify and explain complex financial reports?
  • How would you prioritize tasks your first week? What would you need from us?
  • In your past roles, have you ever had direct reports? Please elaborate. What did you learn from this experience?
  • How do you plan to address delays with compliance?
