Event Coordinator Interview Questions

An Event Coordinator needs to be level-headed and able to take on deadlines with a smile. Coordinating events is no small feat! Working under pressure to meet client and company expectations, and doing so under a time crunch can be a lot to juggle. It’s not for everyone. Ask questions that give you a sense of the candidate’s ability to multitask and work under pressure.

Here are some fantastic questions we suggest for hiring an Event Coordinator:

  • What types of events have you had experiencing with planning/hosting/coordinating?
  • Why do you think you’d be a good fit for this role?
  • Tell me about a time you had to deal with an unexpected issue at work. How did you resolve it?
  • Do you have a lot of experience working with budgets?
  • A deadline is fast approaching, and you’re worried that some of the planning/projects won’t be ready in time. What do you do? How do you communicate this?
  • A client has gone over budget. What do you do?
  • Tell me about a time you had to work for a very demanding client. How did you deal with this? What did you learn about yourself from that experience?
  • You’ve just been given a new event project. What do you do first?
  • How do you keep yourself organized?
  • This role requires a lot of multi-tasking. Tell me about your ability to handle that.
  • Miscommunication can severely impact an event coordination. Tell me how you’d work to minimize miscommunications should you be chosen for this role?
  • What are your favourite types of events to work on?
  • The event details keep changing, and the client is flip-flopping back and forth. What do you do?
  • It’s been difficult to contact your client during the planning stages, especially when critical decisions need to be made to go forward. What do you do to address this?
  • If you had to boil it down, what are three things an Event Coordinator should care about most?
